Think this is a very long shot. Francis Howard, my grandfather was the ward of Lady Harlech and born about 1890, brought up at Gredington. Supposedly he was the illigitemate son of William Robert Maurice Wynne eldest son of the antiquary William Wynne. His mother was companion to Lady Harlech called Katherine Cox or Cocks from London I think. He was brought up thinking she was his godmother. My stepgranny, to protect grandfather's reputation destroyed all but a letter from his mother. Grandfather was in the Navy, then worked for Manchester Ship Canal. He had two wives, my mother from his first, and half uncle from second. He died in 1966.

Would love to know what happened to his mother i.e. where she was buried (died youngish). Or if there were any records of Francis as a boy and his parentage?

Do you have a birth certificate or birthdate for Francis. Even though he was illegitimate it would show the mother.

Only Francis I can find that died in 1966 was in Tonbridge, Kent aged 76 so that would make him born about 1890. Do you know if this the right person before I look further?
